Why go to a driver improvement clinic?
The Commonwealth of Virginia has a system that rewards good drivers. Every full calendar year that a driver has no traffic violations, suspensions, revocations or convictions, he or she will be awarded one safe driving point. No person shall be permitted to accumulate more than five safe driving points. One safe driving point will eliminate one demerit point on your driving record.
Another way to remove demerit points or acquire safe driving points is to attend a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) certified driver improvement clinic. Up to five demerit points will be removed if you satisfactorily complete a driver improvement clinic (like this one), with the oldest points taken away first.
A driver will also be directed to attend a driver improvement clinic by the DMV Commissioner if he or she accumulates 12 demerit points based on convictions for traffic offenses committed within a 12 month period, or 18 points in a 24 month period.
Another reason to attend a driver improvement clinic is to become a more responsible driver, lower your chances of being involved in an accident, and lower your chances of getting a ticket.
How quickly can I finish this course?
The course is designed to take no less than seven and one half (7 1/2) hours, or the equivalent of a traditional in-class driver improvement clinic. The great thing about this course, however, is that you can work at your own pace. No one will be sitting over your shoulder making you slow down or speed up. We understand that everyone reads at different speeds. This program will allow you to proceed at your own pace and there is no time maximum. The average completion time varies but should be around the eight hour requirement.
How long does it take to get the certificate?
This depends on the mailing option you select. When you enroll, you may choose regular mail or expedited service. With regular mail, your certificate is sent out within 2-3 days of graduation. Because of security reasons, it is impossible for you to print your own certificate, so the original certificate must be sent directly from our office to you.
Does the course cost anything?
It costs
$39.99
to attend our driver improvement clinic. This will cover all elements of the course, including immediate access to the site, attendance of the test site, and the completion certificate. Regular in-class driver improvement clinics charge similar fees. Driver improvement clinics are privately operated businesses not affiliated with DMV or the courts, and whether you sit in an eight-hour class or choose this online program, you will need to pay for it.
How can I pay for the course?
You have two options to pay for the course; you may pay by credit card or by check/ money order. If paying by credit card, you will be linked to a completely secure credit card page after completing your registration. The site is encrypted to make your on-line purchase safe. The other way to pay for the course is to mail a check or money order to the address listed below. Make sure to send the check before you complete the course or your certificate will not be mailed.

What if my deadline for completion of the driver improvement clinic has passed?
Contact the DMV for instructions regarding extension of your due date. Absolute Driver Improvement cannot extend your due date.
How do I register for this course?
Registration for this course is quite simple. You can click HERE to be taken to the
online registration page. Just complete all the appropriate fields and you can get started right away. You may also call us at 877-972-4665 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to register on the phone. Either way, it just takes minutes
and you are able to start right away.
Can I use someone else's computer or Internet service?
That is what makes this course so easy and great! You can take this from home, work, a friend or family member's house, or your local library. You can even rent time on the Internet at a copy/computer center. Whatever computer you use, you simply need Internet access. You can also start on your own computer and then finish on another. *This program also works with WEBTV.
Must I complete this course in one sitting?
Absolute Driver Improvement is designed for the person who does not have a lot of time. The course is broken up into fourteen (14) sections, each individually timed. You can complete a 20 or 30 minute segment, for example, log off, and then log back on at a later time, and the computer will record the sections you have completed. You can log on and off as many times as you wish until you complete the program. You can also do the entire course in one sitting.....it is up to you.
What if I have no e-mail address?
Do not worry if you do not have an e-mail address, as one is not needed to take this course. Any correspondence can be directly printed off the program or be done via mail or telephone. On the registration form under e-mail address, simply leave the field blank. You may also use a friend's e-mail address if you wish.
I have already enrolled. How do I get back into the program?
If you have already enrolled, you have a username and password. You may reenter those codes on our home page where instructed as often as necessary to access and complete the program. You may also click HERE for the login screen. If you have forgotten or lost your username or password, give us a call at 877-972-4665.
How does the online timer work?
Absolute Driver Improvement website requires that "cookies" be enabled on your computer, as this will allow the site to time your progress.
Unless enabled, you cannot participate in our course. By default, however, cookies are automatically enabled on your computer. Unless you know your
"cookies" are disabled, you may proceed with the course without a problem.
Because you must be timed while online, the website has an intricate timing feature.
As a result, it is recommended that you do not open any other websites or browsers other than those contained within our program while taking the
course. Although unlikely, too many functions operating at once on your computer while on the program may result in your computer being knocked off
line.
Why is there a time minimum for the course?
Absolute Driver Improvement was approved by The Department Motor Vehicles as an eight (8) hour course. As a result, you may take as long as necessary to read the fourteen sections, and there is no time maximum to complete the program. However, you cannot complete the course in under eight hours no matter how fast you may read. You may take the program during many different sittings/days/weeks, yet the timing element is programmed into the course as part of a State requirement.
I just got knocked off line in the middle of a section. What do
I do now?
Many Internet users are knocked off line frequently. This may result from a lost Internet connection, another call interrupting your connection if you are on a single line with call waiting, or simply because your own computer crashes. Remember, as you complete each section of the course, your progress is logged. Completion of chapter one, for example, cannot be lost if your answers are submitted to the system and graded on screen. Being knocked off line at that point will only bring you back to the start of the next chapter, not delete chapter one. However, if you are in the middle of a section, have been reading for 20 minutes of a chapter requiring 35 minutes, and are then knocked off line, you will have to begin that section over again. The system cannot log your progress if your connection is lost. This is an occurrence that only you can avoid, not Absolute Driver Improvement.
Our website is unable to control your Internet connection, and inactivity on your part will not result in our system knocking you off line. Any activity requirements will be on the part of your Internet service provider.
I use AOL and I keep getting knocked off line. What should I do?
If you are using AOL as your Internet service provider, you will have activity requirements while online. During some of the longer sections requiring more minutes online, there is a chance AOL will knock you off-line unless you remain interactive with AOL. Do not leave the screen alone for any great length of time.....remain interactive with the screen.
Are there any special computer or download requirements to participate in the course?
There are no videos to download in our program and no special requirements at all of your computer. You only need to have your java script and your "cookies" enabled. For the majority of computers, these elements are enabled by default on your computer. If you are on this screen and on our website,
you can typically enroll and complete the course without a problem.
Can I take the entire course from home or do I have to attend a "test site"?
The majority of the course (7 and 1/2 hours) can be completed from home. The final exam, however, must be taken at an official test site in Virginia. At the test site, a test proctor will verify your driver's license and log you onto a special final exam screen. The 50 question final usually takes under 30 minutes to complete and you will know immediately if you have passed. Click here for available test site times and locations.
Non-residents taking the course for court purposes may take the final exam on their home computer. Note: you must have court permission to take an online course. Please call one of our friendly customer service representatives 24/7 at 877-972-4665 to get registered.
What happens if I fail the final? Can I take it again?
You may take the final up to five times without having to re-enroll in the course. If you fail the final exam, you must wait a calendar day to retake
the test. In short, you may only take the exam only once per day. Your driver improvement tuition includes one (1) final exam. Additional final exam
fees may be incurred and payable directly to the test site ($5-$10 on average).
